My sweet friend, Taryn is having a baby, almost the same due date as little Hadley Kaye! Of course I know how I felt last year not having any idea what to register for and what was really needed. Reading all those books and websites was so overwhelming and sometimes silly information. One of the books that I HIGHLY recommend was Baby Bargins, which I gave to her to hopefully read. It's like Consumer Reports for baby equipment. Aside from the obvious stroller, car seat, crib, rocker and dresser...these were some of our favorite must haves that have gotten us through the first 6 months.
1. 4moms mamaRoo- Oh I thank God for this swing as Hadley has slept in this thing so many times, played with the hanging mobile and sits in it while we eat now!
2. Summer Infant Swaddleme- I dont know if swaddling is considered a "art" but in this house, that's how we got her to sleep in her crib from night one and sleep through the night at 2 months old! Ours were the cute organic cotton ones with apples on it!
3. Honest Company- Organic, Biodegradeable, and totally adorable diapers. As many diapers as we go through, we might as well use earth friendly diapers. Well that and they seemed to be 13cents less than the pampers ones we were using before! I just cant get enough of the patterns!
4. Aden + Anais Muslin Blankets-Still at 6mo we swaddle Hadley's arms down when she just cant settle herself or when she's flailing and wont eat her bottle. Almost instantly, most of the time, she calms down and if she's in her swing or being rocked falls asleep eventually.
5. Boba Baby Carrier- When Hadley was born, on the first day or two, they heard some clicking in her hips, which quickly resolved on it's own. We originally bought the Baby Bjorn, however I came across an article from the IHDI that said this could be bad for their hip development. Here is the article here. Since a lot of my job is on child development, the least we could do was switch carriers to ensure good hip development. We LOVE this carrier so much more and have run through the airport with her in this beauty!
6. Tommee Tippee- Well breastfeeding didnt go as planned, since I got mastitis 3 times & had a oversupply issue (producing enough milk for twins). Therefore I have been exclusively pumping since the first week. These bottles were recommended from our friend who is a lactation consultant as they are the closes thing to the breast!
7. Medela Pump-in-Style- Going off the above link, I have definitely used this thing enough and it has been doing it's job. I would recommend the Metro Bag style since you can take the actual pump out of the bag and put it in a cuter bag! It works well off batteries and has traveled all over with us!
8. Boon Grass Drying Rack- I am sure other drying racks do a great job also, however why not make your kitchen counter tops cute! Ours has a cute white tree and purple flower to hang things from!
9. Hanna Andersson- Since babies grow so fast, Hadley was growing out of the footie pajamas just way to fast. Also dear friends of mine let out their secret that Costco sells Hanna Andersson pjs for $13! More than a 50% discount than in the Hanna Andersson store. Organic soft cotton and adorable patterns...yes please!
10. Summer Infant Baby Touch Monitor- Yes I know we live in a tiny house with our rooms practically on top of each other, however it has been the nicest thing to be able to just look at the monitor to see if Hadley is awake. The clearest picture, small like our iPhone and holds its charge for a while!
