She's a Three-Nager

Happy Birthday, well early 3rd birthday to our little Miss Hadley Kaye!  We celebrated her birthday last weekend, January 16th, since we weren't sure when baby Sloane was going to make her grand entrance.  Her actual birthday is February 1st, so it wasn't really that early.  Since H is so young, we knew she would have no idea it wasn't her "real" birthday so we treated it like it was her actual birthday!  Full of presents in the morning, Chick-fil-a or "Cows House" as she calls it for breakfast, and birthday party in the afternoon.

She of course didn't want just one theme for her party, so she wanted both Disney Cars and Disney Princesses, both of which she loves dearly.  But not as much as she loves Penguins!  I think when she saw all the princess and cars balloons, plates and napkins at the store the penguin party went out the window.  We got these adorable birthday invitations from HD Invitations from Etsy, which were the cutest invitations trying combine two very different themes.

Again, we got her cake from Icing on the Cake in Los Gatos.  Since it's a little difficult to draw a Princess and/or Car out of icing, she said she wanted a penguin on her cake.  The cake of course was delicious and just another added theme for her party!

She had such a blast a her party and it was truly so heart warming to see her running around, jumping, climbing and playing with her friends for a hour!  She was sweaty, rosy cheeks and told Mason and I that evening "I had fun today."  What more can you ask for when your almost 3 year old tells you they had fun?!

What is she up to now that she's three?  Let's see what I can remember...

  • Favorite Food: As Mason would see "See year 2 and year 1"  Somethings just don't change. Still milk and snacky food.  She continues to be picky as ever, but we know that with time, she will out grow this.  She loves going to Starbucks to get "purple milk" aka vanilla milk after Barre class with mommy.
  • School: She just transitioned out of her 2yo classroom she was in for a year.  She LOVED Ms. Tsega and would run and give her a big hug in the morning.  I think mommy had a harder time leaving that classroom than Hadley did, but isn't that how it always is?!
    • She now goes to dance class at school and loves it!  She learned how to shake her hinny and dance with her hands.  She tells us they play Mickey Mouse music at dance class.
  • Favorite toys/play: Loves anything penguins, but don't y'all already know that?! We have a large family of penguins, probably 13 stuffed animal penguins, a penguin dress, penguin jacket,  penguin books and several penguin shirts.  I think the only thing we're missing is an actual penguin for a pet.
    • She loves Frozen, Elsa is her favorite princess, she loves being outdoors at the park, blowing bubbles or running free, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse is her favorite TV show,  she loves building towers with Duplo Legos, reading books & going to the library, and going to barre class with mommy!
  • Funny phrases: Since ending speech therapy and hopefully being on the up and up with her ENT issues, she is now a chatty chatty chatty!  She does. not. stop. talking!  All that time and money paid off big time with her speech therapy!  She is pretty funny now and says some cute things, some of which she learns at school and others Mason and I look at each other saying "I didn't say that."  She's like a little sponge.
    • "Turn your face around!"  She says this when trying to get our attention or she wants to be left alone when we turn around in the car to look at her!
    • "Keep your hands to yo' self."  That she must have learned at school!
    • "Wook it mommy/daddy!"  She can't say the "L" so it's the cutest thing when she says this all the time!  "Wook it, Wook it!"
    • When we ask her what her name is she pronounces it "Hattie"
    • When Mason or I ask if she wants to feel baby Sloane kick, she said "Kicking is not nice mommy."  Touche, touche!  At least she has learned that kicking is not a good thing!
    • When Mason and I ask her to put on her shoes her response sometimes is "Rapunzel doesn't wear shoes." Damn Disney for that and how does she remember that Rapunzel does not wear shoes?! She recognizes everything now!
    • She's very sassy, has a independent personality and wants to do everything on her own time like it was her idea.  Sound like a typical woman?!  She tells Georgia what to do, points her finger at Georgia and tells her stuffed animals "No, no, no."
    • "Daddy is going to watch football." She knows that daddy likes football, but yet she always wants the "white team" to win.
  • She has two imaginary friends named Essie and Emerin (however you spell those).  She tells us that Essie is in her pocket, plays with her and sits next to her in the car.  Creepy but cute I guess.
    • But really, she has several little friends that she plays well with!  Lucas, Ollie, George, Emily, Madeleine, Cami & Christian (her friends at school), Logan, gosh did I forget anyone?! She's a social little butterfly and likes to be on the go, go, go!
  • Milestones:  She's potty trained day and night!  Yippee!  We are slowly getting over the public potty fear, although she still won't go pee at the bathroom in Starbucks because that started the whole fear of public/automatic potties.
    • She knows how to count to 20 and say her ABCs.  She can also recognize a lot of the letters as she relates them to things or people she knows.  For example, M for Mommy, S for Sloane, G for Georgia, D for Daddy, Y for Ybarra, etc.
  • She's very into helping get ready for Baby Sloane, picking out diapers, clothes, setting up the swing, crib and seeing her old toys in the garage.  Buuuuut for those who know her personality, this change is going to rock her world!  She says "I want her to stay in there" when I ask her if she's excited to meet Sloane.  She does not want to visit me, daddy or Sloane in the hospital even though there is a playroom, library, gift shop and cafeteria.  What kid doesn't like a cafeteria full of juice, milk and cookies!?!?  Oh well, it will be a play it by ear decision depending on her mood.
Well until next week, we are a family of 3.  Likely the next time we meet, there will be another girl in our house (poor Mason) and a change in routine!  Happy weekend!!!
